Block Printing is a craft of sophisticated precision.

A designer outlines and colours a new print design onto paper. They carefully draw the design within a 7” square (the size can vary) and ensure that the print layout will flawlessly repeat over metres of fabric.

Next – The block craver seamlessly carves the drawing into wood, creating a different block for each element of the design, which also represents each colour. Each block fitting neatly into the other.

And then – Our Block Printers set up a small cart for each colour and firstly they print the outline over a length of fabric. They then ‘fill’ the print with colour by using a different block for each colour of the design. This all combines to make the whole.
